Benje Blanco by Envínate | 2019
Envínate ("Wine Yourself") is the story of four friends — Laura Ramos, Jose Martínez, Roberto Santana, and Alfonso Torrente, who are producing some of Spain's most complex and thrilling wines. Some people call them "natural," we just call them "madly delicious."
The Benje wines are from the volcanic slopes of Mount Teide, Spain's greatest summit, and if you count its base, it's the third tallest mountain in the world! We're in the Canary Islands, on the island of Tenerife, where viticulture happens the good, old-fashioned way: ungrafted, pre-phylloxera vines, untouched by machinery and chemicals. If you've never experienced a wine from this part of the world, then this is your chance to take a scenic ride with 70+ year-old Listán Blanco (the Palomino Fino grape) — high-powered with peach, yellow plum, almond, sea salt, and smoky stone. But it's Benje's sensational softness and tingly acidity that buckle you in... and inspire you to "Wine Yourself" for life.
