Château Potensac | 2010
There's nothing like a fine "claret" on a rainy day — a British-loving Bordeaux red that makes you feel a little more cozy, a little more intellectual, and a lot more grateful. Château Potensac has been on my tasting beat for a long time, and it's arguably one of the best values in Bordeaux. On the label, you'll notice the word "Delon." It's a nod to the Delon family who own a small, but impressive, collection of Bordeaux donjons: Léoville-Las Cases, Clos du Marquis, and my personal crush, Château Nénin of Pomerol. The Delon style is one of power and longevity, clearly evident in this perfectly aged, yet still vibrant, 2008.
Crafted from 42% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 18% Cabernet Franc, black plum, cherry and crème de cassis lean back into all the wonderful smells of time in the bottle — cedar spice, violet greens, and sweet crumbles of tobacco and stone. In classic Delon fashion, the tannins have a delicious grit which carry the wine into its bone dry and steak-craving finish. More medium-bodied, than full, enjoy this with your favorite cut of beef... just don't forget the rain!
Happy Drinking,
Allegra
