For its price category, Flor de Pingus is arguably Spain’s greatest wine, made by one of the world’s greatest winemakers. Dedicated to biodynamic farming and extremely low yields, winemaker Peter Sisseck champions purity and freshness in a region that often represents big, over-extracted, and oaky wines. Pure tempranillo, farmed from 18 different plots, the 2020 Flor is superbly aromatic with dark berries, glazed violets, cigar box spice, and molten earth. Aged in 20% new oak, the structure is impressively strong yet, somehow, maintains a lean and pretty glide on the palate. A wine for drinking now or keeping, it’s never a bad decision to have some Flor de Pingus.
