Despite skyrocketing prices, Burgundy still offers value and a place like Marsannay, the most northern appellation of the Côte de Nuits, is a constant go-to for sommeliers and Pinot Noir enthusiasts. Christophe Coillot's philosophy is simple: make terroir-driven wines as naturally as possible, with the least amount of intervention in the vineyard. The estate practices sustainable farming and does not use insecticides, pesticides, or herbicides. Harvest is done by hand, and there is no addition of yeasts, enzymes, or any chaptalization during vinification. This bottling from La Charme Aux Prêtres lieu-dit, shows a mix of succulent red and black fruits with spices of star anise and clove. Perfectly ripe and with plenty of stuffing on the palate, this is the perfect bridge into the world of Burgundy for a California or Oregon Pinot Noir drinker.
