When we fell in love with Murdoch Hill's Sauvignon Blanc, we looked deeper and discovered that they make this unique, low-alcohol blend of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Pinot Gris. They’re located in the Adelaide Hills, just east of Adelaide, where altitude helps them achieve, as their importer says, “Some of the most serious varietal expressions being made right now in Australia.” A Vinya Exclusive (in Florida), this Pinot x Three bottling comes from old vines in the Piccadilly Valley, planted in the 1960s. Dominated by Pinot Noir, the Pinot Meunier gives a Riesling-like acidity and a feathery texture while Pinot Gris adds its exotic spice. Fermented using 30% whole clusters and aged in older barriques for six months, the palate is a starburst of cool climate fruit: pomegranate, blood orange, and white cherry. At 12.5% alcohol, chill it, glug it, pair it (with almost anything), and be on the outlook for more tasty things to come from one of Australia’s finest, Murdoch Hill. ~AA
