Typically used as a blending grape in western Sicily, Feudo Montoni is one of a few estates to make a pure expression of this native varietal. An active winemaking farm since 1469, the Sireci family purchased the land in the 19th century and discovered a wealth of ancient vines. Their commitment to organic farming and low-intervention winemaking was truly visionary for an island known for high production, big bulk wines. Grafted by hand onto wild plants and sourced from 40-year-old vines, this Perricone bottles up the best of Sicily with crushed herbs, dark red fruits, and sweet earth. It reminds us of a southern Rhône blend, but with more crunch on the palate. Underrated and way delicious, pair this with roasted fish, chicken and olives, or anything off the grill. ~Allegra A
