Clos des Bouchères has quickly emerged as one of Meursault’s most compelling white wine sites since Jean-Marc Roulot assumed stewardship in 2011. Prior to that, Les Bouchères remained a somewhat overlooked premier cru despite its exceptional position on the slope between Porusots and Gouttes d’Or. It was Roulot who revealed the vineyard’s full potential, making wines defined by extraordinary tension wrapped in delicacy. It’s just over a hectare within the broader four-hectare Les Bouchères vineyard and came under Roulot’s care after a New York investor group acquired the site for €12.3 million in 2011, leasing parcels between Roulot and Dominique Lafon. Roulot currently retains Clos des Bouchères, while Lafon has access to neighboring Bouchères parcels. Today, Clos des Bouchères is a close second to the Domaine’s iconic Perrières in the internal Roulot hierarchy. Often described as a premier cru that performs “above its rank,” the wine feels as if the mineral cut of Puligny collided with the textural depth of a great Meursault. ~Allegra Angelo
