Brunello di Montalcino by Bartoli Giusti | 2015
Located 300m above sea level in the central hilly area of Montalcino, the wines of Bartoli Giusti are exceptionally pure, never fondled by new oak or excessive extraction. Sangiovese to-the-bone, this 2015 is vibrant on the nose and impressively delicate on the palate with wild berries, chestnut, Asian plum, and sweet stone. Broken-in, fine leathery tannins and tangy acidity stretch the wine into a superb long finish. Serve the wine between 60-64 (F) in a Burgundy stem alongside grilled skirt steak, thin-crust pizza, or veal cutlets.
Troncone Rosso by Le Ragnaie | 2018
We're kind-of obsessed with this wine. This is essentially "Rosso di Montalcino," but the vineyards are so high-up that they exceed the threshold of the appellation laws. This wine is pure Brunello (the name of Sangiovese in Montalcino) with no over extraction or new oak. It deliciously captures the spirit of high-altitude Sangiovese with its pretty red fruits, cherry tomato, and whiff of sweet and savory herbs.
