Tokaji, Dry Furmint by Sauska | 2017
The high acid, Chenin Blanc-like grape, Furmint, is the noble grape of the Tokaj region. About a 2.5 hour drive northeast of Budapest, it's one of the most historical wine regions in the world, recognized in the 1600s for its sweet wines. It was only until the post-Communist era, in the early 1990s, that the dry styles emerged. A leading family owned and operated winery, Sauska puts the best of Furmint on display with yellow apples and poached pears folded with savory bits of walnuts, honey, and wet stone.
