Located about thirty minutes north of Barcelona, Pla des Bages is a tiny wine region producing very underrated wines. Picapoll is a Catalan evolution of the ancient French grape, Picpoul. It thrives in warm Mediterranean climates and retains an irresistible sweet and salty acidity. This expression from Abadall is more round than lean, with notes of just ripe peach, orange, and lemon thyme. A total summer wine, it complements light summer meals, like grilled flaky fish, and platters of tomatoes, cheese, and herbs. ~AA
