Alberto Voerzio Barolo, La Serra | 2015

$95.00

The Voerzio name has big sway in Barolo. There’s the living legend, Roberto Voerzio, who started his winery in 1986 in La Morra. Then, there’s Alberto, the younger cousin who began his journey twenty years later. Heeding his older (and wiser) cousin’s advice, Alberto purchased his first vineyards in the famous cru of La Serra in the early 2000s. A gem of La Morra, La Serra is an unusually high site (450m) that faces the cozy, late morning sun. As a result, its Nebbiolo is more calm than fierce, in comparison to versions from Monforte d'Alba or Serralunga. With its striking kaleidoscope-like label, the Alberto style is fittingly the same – vibrant, kinetic, enchanting. Aged in French barriques with 25% new oak, this is not a Barolo for those who like the never-ending mouthful of tannin and acidity. La Serra 2015 glides with velvet red fruits, crushed roses, sweet barks, and pretty tea spice. Enjoy it now, save it for later, and do as you wish, because that's the beauty of little Voerzio. ~Allegra A
