Battenfeld Spanier Riesling, Liquid Earth | 2014

$199.00

A stone's throw away from the legendary estate of Klaus Peter Keller, the biodynamic wines of Hans Oliver Spanier and Carolin Spanier-Gillot are tremendously underrated in the United States. Located in the southern region of the Rheinhessen, their jackpot is limestone soils. Unlike the slatey versions from the Mosel, Rieslings grown on limestone have a distinct kind of minerality, one that feels bold and buoyant, extra cold, and goosebump inducing. Aged in tonneaux and bone dry, this super rare, Liquid Earth bottling, is Battenfeld's top wine and puts minerality, over fruit, on full display. The palate is dynamic — big waves of white stones, silver crystals, and pink salt. Tart peach, pineapple, and honey fill in the edges, and a mouthfull of juicy acidity carries the wine into its over-the-top finish. ~AA
