It’s hard to believe that a wine with 11% alcohol can be totally dry and overwhelmingly delicious. Made by all-star winemaker Pepe Raventós of sparkling wine fame, Can Sumoi is a 17th century farmhouse, high-up in the Serra de l’Home range in the Penedès region of Catalonia. Here, native grapes are farmed biodynamically and produced without additives, yielding wines of magnificent transparency and French-like acidity. With its limited quantity and eye-catching bottle (which also makes a great vase), this rosado sells out quickly every year. A blend of Sumoll, Parellada, and Xarel-lo, with a brief 4 hours of maceration on the skins, drinking La Rosa it’s like drinking a puffy cloud, packed with all the pretty smells of the Mediterranean.
