Peter Veyder-Malberg Grüner Veltliner, Liebedich | 2017

$48.00
Peter Veyder-Malberg makes less than 1000 cases of wine a year — they're here, then gone (repeat). He farms in the cooler western fringe of the Wachau, delivering high-toned and haunting "mineral bombs." The Liebedich Grüner Veltliner is sourced from various vineyards, because the quantity from each site is too small for individual bottlings. Inside the bottle, you're getting first-class juice sourced from very old vines. The dominant soil is gneiss (weathered granite) which gives the wine its crunchiness and savory backbone of fennel seed, yellow apple, licorice, and mountain herbs. A totally unique varietal, it's hard to make a bad choice when drinking Grüner Veltliner, especially when it's Veyder-Malberg. ~AA
