Morgon by Leyre-Loup | 2018

$25.00

It's hard to get sick of Gamay.
It's like the adorable friend you have, who you can't get mad at, no matter how hard you try. And, just when it seems like you've had enough of its exuberant fruits, enough of its melt-in-your-mouth tannins, and juicy acidity... here comes more!

Morgon is one of the ten Crus of Beaujolais, and you can think of these crus like zones, with Morgon being the second biggest, after Brouilly. With 1126 hectares, 250 growers, and a myriad of soil types, the Morgon style is not easy to sum-up in one tasting note. Depending on the soils, the farming, and cellar methods "dos and don'ts," they all smell and taste a bit differently (and that's ok). What makes this expression from Domaine Leyre-Loup stand-out for its price, is the pedigree of terroir that lives inside the bottle — sustainably farmed, fifty year-old vines of Gamay from Morgon's best sites: Corcelette, Douby, and the lesser known, Bellevue.

After a gentle swirl, a lip gloss of flavor emerges from the glass — wild strawberry and black cherry, purple jelly beans, pink peppercorn and black stone. On the palate, the wine softly coats the sides, and there’s a nice kick of tannin hiding-out in the background, but you’ll have to pay attention to notice it. So, don't think twice on this special Two for Tuesday. Get ahead of the weekend, and double your fun with Gamay!
