Hello Erste+Neue, “First & New.” It's a tale of two co-ops that became one in 1986, then merged with a juggernaut, Cantina Kaltern (a confusing history with a delicious outcome). Lucky for us, this 2024 is a cream puff of Italian Pinot Noir. With its no frills winemaking, it moves from raspberry to cherry, then vice versa, and hangs out with an underbelly of pink Alpine flowers and warm tea spices. At 13.5%, it’s right where I want my Pinot to be: silk-berry red and miles away from pickles and weeds. SO GOOD. SO FINE ALPINE. Get what you can. ~Allegra Angelo
