Vouni Panayia was the first private regional winery in Cyprus, founded in 1987. Located 1,000 meters above sea level in western Cyprus, it is still family-owned and operated. Xynisteri is the most planted white grape in Cyprus, admired for its mineral intensity, similar to an Assyrtiko or dry expression of Riesling. Grown in limestone soils, these are over 100-year-old bush vines of un-grafted "Franc de Pied," Xynisteri. With just 12.5% alcohol, a pale gold hue over-delivers with loads of sweet and smoky stones and green tropical fruits. It's not creamy, rather slightly waxy which stretches out across the palate. If you're a lover of mineral-forward whites, add Xynisteri to your drinking list. I'm a fan. ~Allegra A
