Buisson-Battault Meursault Vieilles Vignes | 2022
2022 Burgundy was the driest vintage on record, but luckily there's a shared belief that the vines have begun to adapt to the new normal of brooding weather. A promising harvest, which saw a 75% increase in volume compared to the frugal 2021, production is plentiful, quality is very good, and the word "value" returns into play, evident in this stunning old vine Meursault from Buisson-Battault. Both surnames are frequent in Burgundy, so it's no surprise that François Buisson's is a fifth-generation vigneron, and today his Domaine produces more than ten appellations from organically farmed sites. A fan of "No lees stirring," the wine rests in stainless steel tanks after its 12 months in oak (20% new). As a result, his Meursault wines are taut, filled to the brim with cold stones, flint, sourdough, and slivers of chestnut, reminiscent of the Roulot style. I'm not saying this is Roulot, but it is a heck of a value from one of the world's most prestigious winemaking sites. ~Allegra A
