El Enemigo Cabernet Franc | 2020
El Enemigo Cabernet Franc | 2020
A collaboration between winemaker, Alejandro Vigil, and historian, Adrianna Catena, El Enemigo’s stronghold is Cabernet Franc. Yes, they make a very good Malbec and Chardonnay too, but it’s their entry-level Cabernet Franc which proves that this is Mendoza’s most over-achieving grape variety. Sourced from the sky-high vineyards (4,600-4,800 ft.) of Gualtallary, the 2020 is 92% Cabernet Franc with 8% Malbec and ages for 15 months in mostly old foudres, with 20% new oak. In the glass, it soars with ripe black fruits, peppery violets, and pretty, sweet green earth. Its altitude reveals itself on the palate with a stunning concentration of fruit, balanced by a remarkable lift and glide. Not quite full-bodied, but safely medium-plus, El Enemigo is ironically, friendly and is an excellent choice for those seeking personality over power. ~Allegra A
