Domaine Giraud Châteauneuf-du-Pape Tradition | 2022

François and Marie Giraud took over their family's estate in 1998 under the vigneron guidance of their parents. Certified organic since 2011, they farm mostly old vines located in the prime terroirs of Le Crau, Gallimarde and Pignan. The Tradition Rouge is a great introduction to the house style: never too rich, but undoubtedly bold. Mostly Grenache (with Syrah & Mourvèdre), the fruit is destemmed, and aging takes place in cement, steel, and only barrique for the Syrah. A year marked by extreme heat and excessive drought, the Giraud 2022 has plenty of lift and glide. Pale ruby in the glass unlocks swirls of cherries and raspberries, both fresh and lacquered. Then, all the umami perks of Châteauneuf-du-Pape rise to the top with dark soy, bacon, smoky flowers, and teriyaki spice. Textbook times infinity. ~Allegra A
