Meet “Cinque Toscana Rosso” the baby wine from Giovanna Morganti, made from the younger vines on her tiny estate and supplemented with fruit from a leased parcel. The wine takes its name, in part, from its native five varieties: Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Colorino, Mammolo, and—wait for it—Fogliotonda! Aged in Slavonian oak casks, the wine glows like a clown’s rosy cheeks. It’s more electric in color than your typical Sangiovese blend, and somehow it drinks that way too, smiling in every direction with every shade of cherry, from the brightest yellowy pink to the darkest red. With a moderate13% alcohol, it falls into the summer-crusher territory but has a very sophisticated edge. Get what you can. ~Allegra Angelo
