When I visited Galicia, Pentecostés was an instant wow winery for me. Part of the magic was meeting oenologist Dominique Roujou de Boubée, a Galego-speaking Frenchman and one of the bright forces behind Galicia’s terroir movement. Pentecostés is a tiny estate in Val Miñor, a hidden corner of Rías Baixas where Albariño shows a greener, more tropical side of itself, rather than the icier citrus profile you often find in the Salnés Valley. Looking back at my tasting notes, I wrote: “Peach, green banana, not bitter at all, super fresh, not overly creamy, slightly flinty… wow, my favorite so far.” If that sounds like your kind of Albariño, put Pentecostés on your drinking list. It’s an exciting newcomer with serious staying power. ~Allegra Angelo
