Less than twenty miles from the capital of Tbilisi, Kartli is one of Georgia’s key winegrowing regions, with vineyards spread along the Mtkvari River at an altitude between 400 and 800 meters. Its continental climate, moderate rainfall, and diverse soils (alluvial, clay, and limestone) allow winemakers to produce both mineral-driven wines and more structured reds. Native varieties like Chinuri, Tavkveri, and Shavkapito dominate, typically complemented by some international grapes. Winemaking spans traditional qvevri aging as well as more European-influenced tank and barrel methods, making Kartli a crossover region between heritage and modern styles.
Vakhtang is a blend of local grapes Tavkveri and Shavkapito along with Georgia's iconic red, Saperavi. Aged in qvevri, tannins are moderate with oodles of dark berries and a French like tang on the finish. ~Allegra A
