Founded in the late 1980s by Catalans Carmen Daurella and Mario Rotllant, Roda is across from CVNE in the heart of La Rioja Alta, along the banks of the Ebro River. Their wines, aged exclusively in French oak, represent a user-friendly style of Rioja characterized by polished tannins and deep spirals of spiced earth and plump fruit. As someone who appreciates the classic, old-school American oaked wines, I’ve always loved Roda because underneath the oodles of fruit, you can taste the funk of Rioja. The "I" bottling, made from older vines, reveals dark fruit flavors, as indicated by its dark foil, while the classic Reserva (with its red foil) highlights bright red fruit notes. This limited 3-pack of 500ml bottles offers a unique expression of Rioja Alta, showcasing three distinct vintages: the classic 2012, the lush 2016, and the lean 2017.
