One of the original grower-estate Champagnes to achieve popularity in American restaurants and wine shops, the wines of Aubry have never been better, but a drumroll of emerging stars and micro-cults have overshadowed their greatness. Today, Phillipe Aubry’s son, Max is spearheading the estate, moving towards 100% organic, while respecting the family's tradition of farming the ancient grapes of Champagne: Arbanne, Petit Meslier, Fromenteau, and Pinot Blanc. Known for using a high percentage of reserve wine, their rosé consistently remains an incredible value for the beginner, as well as the collector.

Made from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier, with a small percentage of Arbanne, Petit Meslier, Fromenteau and Pinot Blanc, the backbone vintage of the current rosé release is 2021/2020, fleshed out by a generous 50% of reserve wine (with a portion dating back to the late 1990s.) Aged mostly in steel, full malolactic fermentation softens the wine's naturally piercing acidity from the limestone soils. On the palate, big red fruits, croissant flakes, sourdough, and candied flowers dip into all the crannies of your mouth. Powered by mouthwatering, icy minerality, the finish is properly dry, but it's succulent, not austere. We wish this could be a core classic, but we only get it from time-to-time, due to low production, a hallmark of old-school Champagne artisans, like Aubry. ~Allegra A
