Pagodes de Cos Blanc | 2020

Formerly called Goulée Blanc by Cos, Pagodes de Cos Blanc comes from vineyards just north of Saint-Estèphe in the greater Médoc region. Since entrepreneur Michel Reybier bought Cos in 2000, the wines have transcended from respectable to excellent. This is especially true of the white wines, conceived during the 2005 harvest with the inaugural vintage of the Grand Vin, Cos d’Estournel Blanc. In 2018, Goulée Blanc morphed into Pagodes de Cos Blanc, but Goulée Rouge remains in production. 

The 2020 Pagodes de Cos Blanc is a Sauvignon Blanc dominant wine complemented by 10% Sémillon. Energized by its vivid fruits, it’s like sipping the perfect summer day in a glass, spilling over with lemons, pear, buttercup flowers, peach, and beeswax. Then, on the backend, crisp lines of acidity and sweet-smoky stones complete the finish. More open and generous in its youth (versus its Grand Vin counterpart), Pagodes de Cos Blanc is an excellent value and kindly reminds us to never count out White Bordeaux. ~Allegra A
