The Moulin de Gassac Guilhem brand represents the négociant (purchased fruit) line of the beloved Languedoc estate Mas de Daumas Gassac. We're programmed to believe that owned or "estate" fruit is superior to purchased fruit, but in reality, the producer triumphs. A good producer, who buys fruit, will work with growers who share like-minded quality control philosophies such as sustainable farming, measured ripeness, and conservative yields per hectare. The reward? A solid, tasty wine for a very friendly price.
Made from grapes that grow in clay-limestone soils, near France's coastal Thau Lagoon, the technical appellation of the wine is "IGP Pays d’Hérault." A blend of 40% Grenache, 40% Carignan, and 20% Syrah, a pale pink hue unlocks raspberry, salted peach, honeydew, and scents of spring flowers. On the palate, little waves of texture give something to sink your teeth into, lifted by breezes of tingly acidity. At 12.5% and dry, keep a case on-hand, because there's no perfect timing for rosé — it's 24/7. ~Allegra A
