VALDICAVA ROSSO DI MONTALCINO 750ML

Located on the north side of Montalcino, the iconic wines of Valdicava remain mysterious. Even today, there’s not much literature on the estate. Historically long-lived and tannic, Vincenzo Abbruzzzese took over control, from his grandparents, in the late 1980s. He eliminated all chemicals in the vineyard, started farming biodynamically, and drastically reduced his yields per plant. After a decade of improvement, the wines became prettier, finding their balance between fruit and structure.  Today, PierFilippo, Vincenzo’s son oversees Valdicava into its next chapter, which is evident and promising with this Rosso. It's Sangiovese to-the-bone with rich and rustic red fruits, sizeable tannin, and lingering, pesty acidity. Worth decanting, the wine pulls out a red carpet of silky balsamic, oregano, and warm terra cotta. And on the palate, the fruit, earth, tannin, and spice melt into one. It's not the most refined Rosso on the market, but wow, it’s surely one of the most authentic, and delicious, ones. ~Allegra A
